The Labour Day annually celebrates the achievements of these workers. While the day has different orgins in different countries, the main reason for Labour Day is unfair treatment of the labour class. May 1 was chosen to be International Workers’ Day to commemorate the 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago.

In 2020, the federal holidays fall on the following dates: Monday, May 25 – Memorial Day. Friday, July 3 – Independence Day. Monday, September 7 – Labor Day. Monday, October 12 – Columbus Day.
Labour Day commemorates the struggle for an eight-hour working day. Labour Day was first celebrated in New Zealand on 28 October 1890, when several thousand trade union members and supporters attended parades in the main centres.
But it’s the same movement, in honor of the same things – class warfare between rich and poor, labor and industry, in short, what Marx called “the struggle of the dialectic.” Labor Day is without argument the most communist holiday in the world, whether celebrated on May 1 or first Monday in September.
Peter J. McGuire, a carpenter and labor union leader, was the person who came up with the idea for Labor Day. He thought American workers should be honored with their own day. He proposed his idea to New York’s Central Labor Union early in 1882, and they thought the holiday was a good idea, too.
The ” you can’t wear white after Labor Day,” rule was created to separate the old money elitists from the new money group. For those who had money and could leave the city during warmer months, white was considered vacation attire.
Labor Day and Memorial Day are two patriotic holidays that have grown out of the activities of the America people. By 1884, the union had selected the first Monday in September as the official holiday and were urging unions in other cities to celebrate a “workingmen’s holiday ” on that date.
Although many employers pay those who work on Labor Day a little extra for their time, this is not required by law either. “Under federal law, a holiday doesn’t have a special designation for overtime pay, nor is working on a holiday considered overtime,” Rocket Lawyer says on its website.
Part-time workers are paid four hours for New Years, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The Northern Territory observes Labour Day on the first Monday in May. It is held on the first Monday of October in Queensland, the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, and South Australia. Queensland observed Labour Day on the first Monday in May until 2012 and switched back to this in 2016.
