When does Daylight Saving begin and end?
Start | Finish |

Sunday 3 October 2021 Move your clock forward one hour at 2am (Eastern Standard Time) | Sunday 3 April 2022 Move your clock backward one hour at 3am (Daylight Saving Time) |
Today, most Americans spring forward (turn clocks ahead and lose an hour) on the second Sunday in March (at 2:00 A.M.) and fall back (turn clocks back and gain an hour) on the first Sunday in November (at 2:00 A.M.).
If you are a fan of more light in the afternoon, take heart; your time is coming. Daylight saving time, that is. On March 14 at 2 a.m., most of America will “spring forward ” as clocks are set up an hour for the beginning of daylight saving time. 3 дня назад
At present, daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. local time on Nov. 1, 2020, and begins again at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2021.
The main purpose of Daylight Saving Time (called ” Summer Time” in many places in the world) is to make better use of daylight. We change our clocks during the summer months to move an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening.
This will last until 2am on Sunday 31 October 2021 when the clocks go back. An easy way to remember this is ‘spring forwards, fall back ‘. Why do we get more daylight hours in the summer?
When does the time change in 2020? The official time for people to turn the clocks back an hour is at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, meaning the time will go back to 1 a.m. You might get an “extra ” hour of sleep that day, but it will also begin to get darker earlier in the day.
Cardiovascular risks. Multiple studies have shown a small increase in heart attacks after the start of daylight saving time in the spring and a small decrease at its end in the fall. Meanwhile, stroke rates are 8% higher in the first two days following both time changes.
Full-time DST is not currently allowed by federal law and would require an act of Congress to make a change. The 13 states are: In 2020: Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, South Carolina, Utah and Wyoming. In 2019: Arkansas, Delaware, Maine, Oregon, Tennessee and Washington.
There’s more daylight in the evenings and less in the mornings (sometimes called Daylight Saving Time). The clocks go forward 28 March.
Year | Clocks go forward | Clocks go back |
---|---|---|
2020 | 29 March | 25 October |
2021 | 28 March | 31 October |
2022 | 26 March | 29 October |
In the U.S., 2:00 a.m. was originally chosen as the changeover time because it was practical and minimized disruption. Most people were at home and this was the time when the fewest trains were running.
On Sunday, March 8, at 2 am, daylight saving time begins. We’ ll set our clocks forward one hour, and the change will push sunsets later into the evening hours and sunrises later into the morning hours. The cost is that “ springing forward ” will temporarily disrupt the sleep of millions of Americans.
Since Proposition 7 passed, California Assemblymember Kansen Chu has submitted Assembly Bill 7 to “eliminate the biannual clock change in California and set the state on Daylight Saving Time year-round, pending federal authorization.”
Congress gives states two options: to either opt out of DST entirely or to switch to DST the second Sunday in March. Some states require legislation while others require executive action such as a governor’s executive order.
In 1895, George Hudson, an entomologist from New Zealand, came up with the modern concept of daylight saving time. He proposed a two-hour time shift so he’d have more after-work hours of sunshine to go bug hunting in the summer.
