Boston Conservatory at Berklee student Shelbie Rassler convened a virtual orchestra of 74 of her peers to create connection in a time of social distancing. Students joined in the virtual music-making from their homes around the world.
“What the World Needs Now Is Love” is a 1965 popular song with lyrics by Hal David and music composed by Burt Bacharach. First recorded and made popular by Jackie DeShannon, it was released on April 15, 1965, on the Imperial label after a release on sister label Liberty records the previous month was canceled.
Jackie DeShannon was the first artist to record “What The World Needs Now Is Love” in 1965. Many artists have gone on to cover the song including Dionne Warwick, Cillia Black, Aimee Mann, My Morning Jacket and Cat Power.
