Conception (when the egg is fertilized by the sperm) can take place as soon as three minutes after sex or it may take up to five days. Implantation (when the fertilized egg attaches to the uterine wall) occurs five to 10 days after fertilization—which means it can happen anywhere from five to 15 days after you had sex.
To find your conception date, you will have to perform some calculations to estimate it. Find out on what day your last period began, and add your average cycle length in days to that date. Finally, subtract 14 days and you will have an estimate of conception date.
Implantation takes place anywhere between 6 and 12 days after you ovulate. It most commonly occurs 8 to 9 days after conception. So the exact date of implantation can depend on when you ovulated, and whether conception occurred early or late in the ovulation window.
The date of conception is the day on which a person’s baby is conceived. The calculator also estimates a possible range of days during which sexual intercourse might have led to conception based on sperm being viable for 3-5 days within a woman’s body.
Along with cramping, you may experience what is called implantation bleeding or spotting. This usually happens 10 to 14 days after conception, around the time of your usual period. Implantation bleeding is usually much lighter than your regular menstrual period bleeding.
A pregnancy starts with fertilization, when a woman’s egg joins with a man’s sperm. Fertilization usually takes place in a fallopian tube that links an ovary to the uterus. If the fertilized egg successfully travels down the fallopian tube and implants in the uterus, an embryo starts growing.
As soon as the fertilized egg implants into the uterine wall, the hCG pregnancy hormone is produced. This means a high-quality pregnancy test could detect a pregnancy in as little as 5 days after conception.
Further Signs of Successful Implantation Sensitive breasts. After implantation, you might find that breasts appear swollen or feel sore. Mood swings. You might feel emotional compared to your usual self, which is also due to changes in your hormone levels. Bloating. Changing tastes. Blocked nose. Constipation.
Walk your fingers up the side of her abdomen (Figure 10.1) until you feel the top of her abdomen under the skin. It will feel like a hard ball. You can feel the top by curving your fingers gently into the abdomen. Figure 10.1 With the woman lying on her back, begin by finding the top of the uterus with your fingers.
How many days after ovulation is it possible to get pregnant? Pregnancy is possible 12–24 hours after ovulation. This is because the released egg can only survive 24 hours before the sperm can no longer fertilize it.
Conception occurs during the part of a woman’s menstrual cycle called ovulation. Doctors consider day 1 of a menstrual cycle the first day of a woman’s period.
Ovulation isn’t a perfect science and can happen earlier or later than the norm, which might shift your due date slightly. That’s okay…a few days or even a week of discrepancy won’t change your dates. Your doctor will go with the due date obtained from your ultrasound.
