— March is Colorado Springs’s snowiest month of the year on average, and the first Monday of this month is off to a snowy start.
On average, March is Denver’s snowiest month, according to 138 years of records. It’s followed by April, December and then February, typically our 4th snowiest. In 2019, February topped March, and was the snowiest month of that season.
Usually in November, you’ll typically find only a handful of lifts open. Snowfall at this time is sporadic, and while most all of the resorts have snow -making capabilities, skiing is still fairly limited. Although sometimes early snowfall brings early openings!

The Holiday Blizzard I was an intense blizzard that covered the Colorado Front Range, the Colorado Eastern Plains and surrounding states. It began on December 20, 2006 with a powerful blizzard which crippled the region, forcing the closures of Interstate Highways 25, 76 and 70, as well as U.S. Routes 36 and 85.
Denver winters are actually quite mild. While it can get decidedly chilly sometimes, overall temperatures during the winter months are actually pretty moderate. “Even the coldest month, December, has an average daily high temperature of 45 degrees, and days reaching 60 degrees are fairly common,” Wagner says.

Pikes Peak tends to have its own weather at any given time, and frankly, when you’re the biggest thing for miles, you can do what you want! Occasionally it will snow on the Peak in July, or be beautiful and sunny when it’s snowing in town.
In Denver, the summers are hot, the winters are very cold and dry, and it is partly cloudy year round. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 22°F to 89°F and is rarely below 6°F or above 96°F.

In most years, Denver averages a daily maximum temperature for November that’s between 47 and 58 degrees Fahrenheit (8 to 14 degrees Celsius). The minimum temperature usually falls between 22 and 28 °F (-6 to -2 °C).
The best times to visit Colorado Springs are from March to May and from September to October. That’s when you’ll find slightly cooler (yet still comfortable) temperatures as well as fewer crowds and bargain rates. Another perk for fall visitors: the foliage.
While Colorado may be best known for its winters because of the fantastic ski conditions, the state actually does experience all four seasons. If you’re a winter sports fanatic, you’ll love the cold months, but most people flock to the area in the fall.
Denver gets more snow and is colder at night than NYC, but Denver is slightly warmer and considerably sunnier during the day. The humidity is lower here which can make it feel milder for some folks.
January is the coldest month of the year in Colorado, with the temperatures even below 0°F (-17.8°C) in many parts of the west. The average low temperatures are between -8°F (-22.2°C) to 22°F (-5.6°C), while the average high temperatures are in the 25°F (-3.9°C) to 49°F (9.4°C) range.
