While they note colleges may impose different deadlines, most applications for regular fall admission will come due by January.
To meet an application deadline, you must submit your application materials by 11:59 pm on the day of the deadline displayed on your Dashboard. The end of the deadline date is in your local time zone, not the college’s time zone.

A November 1 deadline means that you can submit your application through 11:59 PM Eastern Time on November 1. So for those of you who thought you’d have to miss out on Halloween fun tonight, no worries: you can have your candy and ED too.

That depends on each scholarship’s deadline. Some deadlines are as early as a year before college starts, so if you’re in high school now, you should be researching and applying for scholarships during the summer between your junior and senior years.
So when does college start? Most schools on the semester system will have a fall and spring semester. Fall semesters typically start in mid to late August and run through December. Spring semesters will start in mid to late January of the following year.
Is it too late to apply to college? The answer is No. Several hundred colleges continue to accept applications and admit students until the start of the fall semester. This is the time to look at colleges known as “ Late Application ” or “ Late Deadline” schools.
Help! If this is you, don’t worry. It’s not your problem anymore. The Common App knows that these things are out of your control — what’s more, they don’t penalize you for any of it. All you’re responsible for by the application deadline (for your recs section) is your recommenders’ names and their contact information.
The most common deadlines for early action are November 1 and November 15. These deadlines are not flexible; you must get all your materials, including recommendation letters and test scores, to the school by the stated deadline. Since you apply early, you’ll also be notified of your admissions decision early.
Keep in mind you may only add up to 20 colleges. You may adjust your list of colleges at any time. Once you’ve submitted, you will not be able to remove those schools from your My Colleges list.
During the admission process, you’ll choose only your primary major. You’ll be able to declare a double major, minor or specific concentration after the start of your first-semester classes. If you are undecided about your preferred major, you can choose from eight different “undeclared-exploring” options.
How Many is Too Many? Most admissions officers generally advise students to apply to about five to seven colleges, but no more than 10.
