We’ve paused the expiration of miles through June 30, 2021. If your miles are scheduled to expire on or before June 30, 2021, they will now expire in July 2021, if there’s no additional activity in your account before then.
AAdvantage miles usually expire after 18 months of no activity, meaning that a user hasn’t earned or redeemed miles in this timeframe.
The good news is that if your AAdvantage miles have expired after 18 months, you have options to restore them. The bad news is that it’s going to cost you something to do it. Reinstating miles is only worth it if you need just enough to cover an award ticket that would cost more in cash.
So, to figure out how much your American Airlines miles are worth in this situation, here’s the math: ($1,278 cash price – $67.55 in taxes) / 50,000 miles. Value per American Airlines mile: 2.42 cents.
