Bad news: you won’t be able to grab a PS4 for lower price after PS5 launch. It follows an earlier message from Sony (since removed) listed on the PlayStation.com Direct Store PS4 Pro product page that stated “there are currently no plans to restock this item in the future.”
Sony has announced that the PlayStation 4 will be available at a brand new price of $349.99 in the U.S. If you haven’t made the jump yet, and you’re starting early on your holiday wish list, I have good news – we’re dropping the price of the PlayStation 4 system in the U.S. and Canada.
Overall, buying a PS4 Pro in 2020 or a PS4 Slim is worth it if you factor in trade-in value once the ps5 is out. Having said that, I wouldn’t go upgrading to a pro version if you already have a working slim or standard console.
On October 9, 2015, the first official price cut of the PS4 in North America was announced: a reduction of $50 to $349.99 (US) and by $20 to $429.99 (Canada). An official price cut in Europe followed in late October 2015, reduced to €349.99/£299.99.
The PS5 price comes in at $499 ( £449 / AU$749.95) – the same cost as the Xbox Series X price.
In the battle of PS4 vs PS5, there’s really no right option. The PS4 and PS4 Pro are not bad consoles by any means. The PS5 is just better. You’ll have a more immersive gaming experience, with ray tracing, haptic feedback on the DualSense controller, a lightning-fast SSD, and so much more.
The simple reason why PS4 is still “ expensive ” is the following: They are the leader of this ( PS4 /Xbone/Switch) console generation – thus there is no need to lower the price, nor add any value to the bundles.

You can buy whatever you want, whenever you want. Of course, the PS4 will be really cheap in 2021, due to it being obselete by then. So I’d say, if you want to play PS4 games cheap, go for it. But, if you ALSO want to be able to play new PS5 games, you would have to buy a PS5.
Not only is the PS5 significantly more powerful – its GPU and CPU are far more capable than those found in the PS4 Pro – it’ll also load games faster than ever before thanks to its internal NVMe SSD. The new DualSense controller is also a game changer, in our opinion.
PS4 guestimate lifespan before replacement of parts or the whole thing is 4-7 years.
There is a version of the PS3 that can play not only its own games, but also those of the PS2 and PS1. That one, if you’re a “retro gamer”, would probably be worth getting. Ps3 is definitely worth owning in 2020 if you like older games. Backwards compatible with Ps2 on the original model too.
Sony is officially discontinuing most PS4 models — what you need to know. Only the 500GB PS4 Slim will remain in production as Sony Japan pivots its attention to the PS5. That means all other PS4 models, including the PS4 Pro, have been discontinued with no new stock on the way.
PS5 price: Will it come down? While it’s a bit of a cop-out answer, it’s also true: The PS5’s price is unlikely to change in 2021, so it shouldn’t really factor into your decision one way or the other. If you want a more substantial price break, you’ ll have to wait until 2022 or later.
The PS4 Pro will get discontinued just four years after its release. Reportedly, Sony has taken this step to boost the production of PS5 in order to meet the increasing demand for the newly-released models worldwide.
