If you receive SSI but not Social Security benefits, and did not file for taxes in 2019, the IRS will automatically send your payment the same way you normally receive your SSI benefits, such as by direct deposit, Direct Express card or paper check.
Adults who started receiving their monthly Social Security or SSI payment on or after January 1, 2020 should receive their $1,200 EIP from the IRS on or by November 6, 2020 without taking action with the IRS. Other adult federal benefit recipients must act by November 21st to get their $1,200 EIP this year.
The monthly maximum Federal amounts for 2021 are $794 for an eligible individual, $1,191 for an eligible individual with an eligible spouse, and $397 for an essential person.
Income is based on your 2019 adjusted gross income (AGI). Individuals earning under $75,000 and heads of households under $112,500 typically qualify for the full $600 stimulus payment. Those married and filing jointly or surviving spouses earning under $150,000 usually qualify for a $1,200 payment.
Individual taxpayers who have an AGI of $100,000 or more in 2019 or 2020 aren’t eligible. The new stimulus check could begin to phase out after $75,000, per the “targeted” stimulus plan (see below). Concurrent SSI and SSDI Benefits It supplements. For example, if an approved disability claimant receives SSDI monthly benefits in the amount of $400, an SSI award could be used to guarantee that the claimant’s total monthly benefits equal the minimum SSI amount, which is currently $794 per month.

Remember, though, that not all income is countable, and so you can earn more than $794 per month and still qualify for SSI (more on this below).

In other words, if you didn’t file a return in 2018 or in 2019, you were still eligible for a check, but the IRS wouldn’t have known where to find you to pay you your money. Because of this form, it was not necessary for non-filers to submit a tax return to get their stimulus money.
Even if you owed back taxes or some other type of government debt, you were still due stimulus money. When Congress wrote the second bill, it even specified that those owing money to a debt collector or in back child support were still eligible for a stimulus payment.
If you are due a stimulus check but haven’t received the money by the time you file, claim it on your return. Line 30 on the 1040 tax form allows you to let the IRS know that you didn’t receive your funds. If you’re owed a refund on 2020 taxes, the IRS will add the stimulus money to the amount you’re due to receive.
