NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna will be memorialized in a televised event that celebrates the life and legacy of the athlete on the morning of Monday, Feb. 24 beginning at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT. ESPN, ABC News, Hulu Live TV, Sling TV, Yahoo Sports, and Facebook Watch will also live-stream the event.
Celebrities such as Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez also attended. After Jimmy Kimmel welcomed the crowd, Vanessa Bryant provided a poignant window into the family’s life with Gianna and her three sisters — Natalia, Bianka and Capri.
“To commemorate Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and the seven other members of our Orange County community who lost their lives in a helicopter crash last month, the city of Santa Ana is inviting the public to watch live broadcasts of the memorial event on Monday, Feb. 24, at City Hall,” said a city statement.
When and where is the service? The memorial is being held Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. (1 p.m. ET) at the Staples Center, the downtown arena where the basketball legend played for the bulk of his 20 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Two days before the one-year anniversary of that tragedy, ESPN is honoring the legacy of the NBA legend with a prime- time special that will air Sunday night, January 24, at 9 p.m. ET.
Spectrum News 1 will carry the memorial, as will ABC News Live (the network’s streaming service) on various platforms, including Roku, Hulu, Facebook Watch and Apple TV. Viewers also can watch live on latimes.com. Local networks also are expected to broadcast the live event.
LeBron James reportedly attended Kobe Bryant’s memorial service at the Staples Center on Monday, but the Los Angeles Lakers star raised a lot of questions about his presence at the event since he didn’t speak and wasn’t spotted by the cameras. Before the memorial began, James posted “2/24,” the date of the memorial.
The crash also killed Payton Chester, 13; Sarah Chester, 45; Alyssa Altobelli, 14; Keri Altobelli, 46; John Altobelli, 56; Christina Mauser, 38; and Ara Zobayan, 50.

Kobe Bryant’s parents Joe and Pamela Bryant didn’t attend Kobe’s wedding but they were present at Kobe’s funeral and his memorial service that was held at Staples Center. In 2013, Kobe sued his parents after they tried to sell his sports collectibles that he had given them.
Bryant was headed from Orange County to his daughter’s tournament at his Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks on the morning of Jan. 26. Bryant’s body was found on one side of the wreckage, and his daughter’s was found in a ravine on the opposite side.
From the church’s website, in case the funeral does take place at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Kobe’s family will be asked to select the necessary scriptures to be read, and music they feel is most appropriate to be played. The ceremony is said to start with a vigil in the church or the mortuary chapel.
